1989 Johnson 200 hp trim and tilt question

The trim and tilt on this motor makes a groaning sound thru the up and down trim area. All other up and down operations are good and they are silent. I have checked fluid level, all joints that move do move and have been greased. I would appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks

Put grease in the tilt tube and check to make sure the level is full

What happens on salt water motors is this.-------Corrosion products ( white powder ) form between the plastic bushings and the brackets of the tilt tube.-----This usually causes binding and the snap crackel / popping.

And if trim pads are pitted the small trim rams will bind and cause this problem also...

Well located problem with trim and tilt. Found o rings all wadded up in starboard trim ram. Replaced o rings and no more noise. Works great. Hope this info is helpful to someone else.
