1987 Evinrude 50 hp E50TELCUD has me stumped

Hello, I have a Evinrude 50hp that is hard to start and runs very rough, I have to keep increasing and decreasing throttle to keep it running. if i let go of the throttle it will stall out.

I have already completed the following:
Carbs cleaned 2 times
New Fuel lines
Checked Fuel pump for leaking diaphram (VRO deleted and pumps plenty of fuel when cranked)
Compression is 125 on both cylinders
checked primer solenoid

Spark will not jump 1/2 inch when tested, thinking this could be it? possible crankcase leak, or fuel starvation?

I am currently in the process of removing the flywheel(stuck), should have it off in a couple of days to check stator, mag, etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Pump the fuel primer bulb constantly, acting as a manual fuel pump. If this cures the problem, replace the fuel pump or rebuild it.

let us know if the brown goo is under flywheel, and just a note: these year motors compression when really good run about 140+, and ( just my opinion) when numbers match, maybe head gasket leak, but you may have rounded your numbers, also check with a different gauge

Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?------With the correct puller the flywheel comes off in seconds.

Fuel pump is working properly, I am using the primer solinoid to get it started.

Had the flywheel off today, everything looked good, the trigger had some goo on it which I cleaned.

Now I have lost a consistent spark, it seems to only jump a small 1/8 gap every 6 or so rotations on both cylinders, I'm thinking powerpacks or trigger?

Thanks for all the responses

Load test the battery.-----Often a free service.-----Take starter apart for inspection.---Also free and easy to do.

you can check ohms on trigger and charge coil, at the 5 pin plug, trigger (sensor coil) is 40 +/- 10, and charge coil is 575+/- 25, to check voltages would need voltmeter with DVA adapter or check CDI for complete troubleshooting electrical

Check the spark plug wires for continuity. It may be broken internally or corroded. If ok then try swapping the ignition coil from working sparkplug to the one firing inconsistently.
If all spark plugs are weak, probably the power pack or stator is the culprit.
If still issue, check power pack connections. Clean n reinstall..if the issue remains, change oowerpack.
If still remains check stator capacitor or may have problem with stator coils. in that order.

Most likely you may get to the issue in 1 or 2 or 3 rd step.

The "goo" on the trigger sensor is a matter of concern.

The single coil you see there that has (usually) a Brown wire and a Brown/Yellow wire is the component that provides AC voltage to the powerpack capacitor..... If that should be leaking the "goo" you mentioned, a voltage drop would take place that would result in the weak, erratic spark you mention... so, if leaking, replace it regardless of what ohm reading you might obtain.

However, do check the readings of the components as "scalhoun506" (above) suggests.

Ok I'm stumped

I have this same motor and it starts no problem when cold. However the top cylinder continues to misfire after swapping coils. Did a leak down and compression test and all was good. Have fiddled with the adjusting screw on the carbs and no change.

Any help would be appreciated
