I’ve got a low hours (370) 140 looper. Cosmetically it’s in near perfect condition. It’s got low compression in one cylinder (90psi) the others are 140-140-130. I pulled the head and the one cylinder is mildly scored up. Is this motor worth repairing? It’s runs but idles terrible. Making docking very tough. It’ll keep quitting on me. Some local repair shops seem to think this motor is “great” because of the V6 lower gear case and the motors torque output. A refurbed power head is 2300$ and I can do the work myself. Or is it just to old to invest any money into? Or do I look for a refurbed newer motor. The motor is on an 85 Mako that I’ve been restoring over the last year. I’m undecided and looking for opinions.

That was a good old motor and if it was mine I would fix it. JMO
Thanks. I’ve decided I’m going to repair this motor. I need to decide now if I’m going to buy a refurbed powerhead or take the original to be bored and sleeved. You’d think there would be a lot of places that machine power heads here on Long Island but, so far I’m not having any luck finding anyone close by.

Well not many places rebuild motors anymore.----So the places that provide machine work disappear too.----I do my own machine work for that reason.
