1985 150 power trim replacement

Anyone out there ever replace a power trim/tilt assy from a 1985 150. Just read a post where the guy said you have to remove the motor from the boat. Is this the case?

Is it just the electric motor or the whole thing?Profile,location?Salt or Fresh water?
Just the motor you might get away with removing one of the transom clamps.
To change the whole thing it would be almost impossible to remove it without taking it off.J
