Hello, I have a 1984 johnson 90hp v4 (J90TLCRD) that has running issues.
The issues: at cold starts it has a hell of a time idling. I usually have to put it in high neutral and rev a few times to get it to idle. This Usually takes a few tries reving then bog out, reving then bog out then finally idles. Then when leaving the dog if I don't give it enough has reversing it may cut out and I'll have to start it and give it more gas to keep it running. Once out of the lake I'm able to get it on plane and do about 32 mph in a 1703 spectrum. Engine sounds smooth full throttle. When you give it some throttle it will sound like it may die or misfire(rarely) but sounds off.
Preferred outcome:
Figure out why that lower pull doesn't show much wear and have it run a bit smoother after warming up. Any guidance would be great, I do not have a manual for this outboard
Took the new plugs out after running it at different speeds for about an hour. The bottom left looking at the cylinders seems to have no sign of actually firing. All the other plugs have signs of running
120 psi in all 4 cylinders
New champion plugs
Rebuilt and cleaned carbs
new fuel lines
Cleaned fuel filter
Have spark at all 4 cylinders while cranking
(Facing the cylinders)
Left:
255ohms B/Y & B wires to stator
Plug wire to ground
Top: 251 ohm
Bottom: 246ohm
Orange wire to ground
Top: .5ohm
Bottom: .4ohm
Right:
245ohms B/W & B/B wires to stator
Did not test coils since this is not the side I'm having issues with.
