Anyone have any experience in this? Here is the deal, I bought it new in 1984, tiller handle, put on a piece of plywood and a racing prop to play with. BUT never turned a screw on it---no mods---totally stock. 1989 I started go-cart racing and the boat set under the shed mainly, steady from 1995 to 1998, Had a friend that wanted to borrow it. I told him to have the carbs rebuilt and he could use it. He did and used is a fair amount for a year and then bought his own bigger boat---back under the shed for about 3 years then we used it a few times----ran good but when you idled it down low enough that you could shift gears without it jerking it would idle a few seconds then cut of---figured out the bowl would get low on fuel and it would run out of gas---have to pump the bubble up then it would crank but if I let it idle low again it would cut off, but again ran perfect above a idle. Bought a new tank and bubble which hangs straight down---same thing so I figured the fuel pump diaphragm needed replacing. Well I put it back under the shed with plans to rebuild it, Things changed, time past now over 10 years later I pull it back out from under the shed, went ahead and rebuilt the carbs before even trying to crank it. They were really clean, nothing in the bowls almost as clean inside as a new one. The carbs have the fuel pump made onto the carb.
Hooked the tank to it, pumped the bubble, cranked right up on the water hose, sounded good. Idled it down to normal---less than 5 seconds it cut off. Had to pump the bubble up and it cranked---let it idle a little fast and it ran good, I let it run for about 10 minutes----slowed it down a little and it cut off again in about 5 seconds-----its not idling To Low---to idle it low enough to put it in gear without it jerking speed.
The Pulse comes from a hole where the carb bolts on---hole in gasket lines up good. No other fuel pump except the ones on the carb. I put it in the river yesterday for the first time in over 10 years---ran good for the 10 to 15 minute test, except when I idled it down to drive it on the trailer----cut off.
It for sure seems to be the fuel pump is not pulsing enough to keep the fuel in the bowl when Idling? I shorten the bubble hose 15 years ago and am using a small clamp----when it cuts off on low idle---I took the hose loose at the motor where it plugs in----the fuel line is full of fuel so I know the bubble is holding. I did not surface the fuel pump plates with fine sand paper on glass but they were clean and look good with the eye.
I do not know what to do next??
