1982 Mercury 70hp Triple Carb Jet Help

Hello, I'm running a 1982 Merc 70 outboard L3. 145 psi on all 3 cylinders. Some guys open up the jet a little on the top carb to rich out the fuel air to reduce top cylinder failure. What has helped you guys out there? 1/8 turn out? 1/4 turn out? Appreciate your suggestions...

Fuel is not the problem on these..it cooling. Replace the impeller every 2 years no matter how it pees. Some people dont realize that top carb feeds both top and middle cylinder.

Thank you. Do you recommend restricting or eliminating the cooling water to the fuel pump, that some have suggested?

No as its designed to help prevent vapor lock, You can put a restrictor in the pee tube to slow water down, like a yellow butt connector
