1978 merc 85 hp

I have an 85 hp merc that started every time but I had a locksmith work on the ignition
because it was hard to turn key on since then it will turn over when I try to start it but its
not firing, I think he put it back together wrong, is there anyone that could tell me how
to jumper the ignition wires to get it to turn over and also start.
please help
thanks Dave

Careful! That's a '12 volts to run the ignition' motor with a switch box. Do it wrong and poof goes a hundred bucks.

I suggest getting a manual and going over the wiring extra carefully.

Remove spark plug wires and install a spark tester. Then remove the blk/yellow off switchbox and crank to see if you have spark. The ADI system does not use 12 volts to power it

Hi Jeff,

on my wiring diagram it shows a b f. On the ignition switch wiring to start and run, can I jump those three together
to see if it turns over and starts like it used too before I had the ignition switch taken apart and worked on.
it started and ran great before it was worked on... Help please. Dave

You jump A and F to crank and disconnect D . Easier to just unplug side harness and jump solenoid, if starts plug back in to kill. Make sure it on hose muffs...

Correct--that's an ADI Merc (me bad). Be extra careful not to hurt that switch box for they are hard to find (and$$$).
