Hello,

I have a 1977 55hp Johnson that has no spark. I tested the brown wire from the stator and as CDI manual says it has 230volt disconnected. When I connect the brown wire to the power pack it says I should have the same voltage but I only get 1 volt. The mainsail say if that’s the case replace the power pack. I replaced the power pack with a brand new one and I’m still getting 1 volt. Any ideas?

The ignition system on your motor does NOT use 12 volts from the battery to make spark.----What method / meter did you use to get the 230 volts ??-----How did this motor run for you last season ?-----Try disconnecting the black / yellow stripe wire and see if you get spark.

I did what CDI said to do. I used a fluke meter with a DVA adapter and checked DC voltage on the brown wire from the stator while it was connected to the power pack and while it was disconnected.

I disconnected the black and yellow wire. Still no spark. This is my first season with the motor.

Tested the sensor coil ?
The brown stator wire. Cdi says it should be 150+ volts when disconnected. Which it is. But it’s also supposed to be 150+ volts when it’s connected to the power pack. Which it is not. Cdi says if that’s the case replace the power pack. Which I did but the new power pack does the same thing.
