1976 evinrude 85 wont start

So to start off I bought this 16' Bonito with a 1976 Evinrude 85. Didnt come with a key so I replaced the ignition and bought a new battery. Turn the key and nothing at all. Someone please lead me in the right direction as to what I should start with. It was in neutral. Am I missing some wiring somewhere? i just simply connected the pos and neg to battery.

What kind of ignition switch did you install?----An exact factory replacement or one that somebody said ---" this should work "----Did you follow a wiring diagram ?-----Does it crank when you put booster cables directly to the starter ?
 
OMC same as throttle control unit. I bought it on ebay. all connections were identical. marked wires pulling old off and replaced exactly. I only jumped it enough to make sure engine would turn over when I bought the boat. havent sarted it.
 
cleaned all the terminals. Ignition will spin starter, but not raise high enough to engage flywheel... any ideas? starter not getting enough power?
 
I just got a 15' fiber form with a 78 Evinrude 85. I had the same starter issue. Took it apart and cleaned it up and now it's engaging. Still no fire in the hole though, does anyone know where to download a wiring diagram?
