1969 Johnson 55hp

I have replaced a broken distributor cap, gaped the points, cleaned up the roter. I still can't get this thing to start. When you turn it over nothing but sometimes it will fire once after you let go of the key. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Some will argue.-------I would take a look / inspect the starter motor.--Take it apart that is.-------Load test the battery ( even if it is new ) and inspect battery cables and connections.

I'm going to start with checking power from the stater. After that I guess (hope not) look at the power pack (ignition module). I did have a 71 Johnson with no spark. I tried everything only to find out it was a bad ignition switch.

Ok, I fired intermittently a couple times and that's it. I read somewhere how to test the ignition module with a test light. Anyone know how to do that?

Sorry ---The stater has nothing to do with ignition on this motor.-----It charges the battery.-----Does not have a " powerpack " either.------It has an amplifier that uses 12 volts from the battery , some electronic magic to end up with voltage that will jump a gap of nearly 1/2" on a test device.
