I have the opportunity to buy a 14' aluminum boat with a 1968 9.5 HP Evinrude and a yacht club trailer that has 70 miles on it all for $450. I think the trailer is worth the money alone, but I am curious about the outboard motor. The guy is 86 years old and bought the boat and motor new in 1968 and used it regularly up until the early 90's. In 1995 he had the motor serviced and tuned up and took it out one time. It has sat in his garage since 1995 and looks almost new still. I only hope he ran the fuel out of it before storing it. I have a 1985 Mercury 7.5 hp I just got running so I don't need the motor, but I would like to get it running and sell it. Any recommendations before I buy the boat on what the motor may need to get it running. I know some outboards like the 1950 mercurys are not worth fixing. Is this one worth the effort?

Those motors sold new for about $450.00-----------They still sell for that amount today ( i know different value dollar )---------------Likely it will need new coils ( the originals all cracked ) and a new impeller.----------------------A motor not well liked by some but at 60 LBS it is an excellent fishing motor.

Update, I finally got a chance to start this baby. It took a few pulls, but finally started up. It ran rougher than H**l. I definitely need to do some work to this baby. It looks almost brand new, but the carb needs cleaning and a new impeller is a given even though it seems to pump water. I am hoping the ignition is still good, but we will see.
