150 XR6 Sudden Death

2001 Mercury XR6 150 died on my return trip today. No warning no funny noise purring along at about 5200 RPM then blah... nothing and it wont restart.
So I get home finally and try to start again. It idles really rough and within a few seconds starts clacking really loud.... oh damn.

Pulled the plugs and found one with metal build up in the hole and plug fowled really bad. What causes that?

Well good news is I wanted to upgrade to a 200HP anyway. Bad news is no $$$$

What would you do? Reman Powerhead, used motor?
Really wanting the best fix, least labor intensive cheapest option balance.
Is there any hope for this block?

Advance module....usually cyl#1,3 or 6 ...Block is only trashed if it vented itself as 2.5 is easy fixed block unless bottom port slot is cracked but still fixable.

Its middle left (looking from aft to bow). Also noticed a little oil pool in bottom of spark plug. Is that a "vented" piston ring? Or do you mean rod through block type "vented"?

Also noticed that the oil usage is not much at all. Hmm... could a bad oil injector tank cap or relay whatever it is be where this started?

Im thinking it would not be good to just fix the one piston even if that would get it running right. Seems like asking for another breakdown but idk?

Whats the $ difference if the block is still good? If its just the core value I may go with a used 200HP.

As it sets now it worth about $700-900 and if repairs are extensive(welding /sleeving) you can get $1500 in parts real quick and this is DIY not shop.

NADA says 2,650.00 High side. If I can get 800$ for it and buy a 200HP direct replacement meaning no additional gauge or cabling costs for under 4K... Ill go that route cause im not in a position to DIY at the moment.

Update... Local Mercury Stealer wants 3 to 4k closer to 4 he says to "repair" re-sleeve one cylinder. IDTS...Now shopping for used motors.

I found a reman long block 200HP which is the same block as the 150 for 2800$.
Since it appears to be fully dressed what else would I need to be aware of?
Seems like an awesome deal and has a year warranty.
But only if its a fairly straight forward swap.
