150 hp Merc inline 6

I pulled off my 1999 Merc 40 hp 4-stroke and replaced it with a 1975-76 inline 6 150 hp. I want to utilize my power cord which is a 8-pin connector and splice on the 7 pin. Does anyone know which wires from the 7-pin get soldered to the ones on the 8-pin...??? I'll break it down below.......

7-pin 2-stroke : red...yellow...grey...cream...pink...brown...black

8-pin 4 stroke : red...black...grey...purple...yellow/red stripe...yellow/blk stripe...tan/blue stripe...blk/yellow stripe

Again, I would like to splice on the old seven pin to the newer 8 pin power cable (since all the steering and throttle cables fell into place.)

I just need to know what wires from the 7-pin get soldered to the newer 8-pin...... Any help would be appreciated..........

I can help you with most of them, but you are going from a very very old system (relatively) to a new harness - so not everything will necessarily mate up.

Red (7) goes to Red (8) - this is your main hot feed - nothing changes there.

Yellow (7) goes to Yellow/Red (8) - this hot feed to the starter solenoid when you turn the key to start that tells the solenoid to feed power to the starter

Grey (7) goes to Yellow/Black (8) - this is the feed from the keyswitch to power the choke solenoid/enrichment system

Cream (7), which started it's life as "white" - I don't know on this one - suspect it's tan/blue but the ignitions are so different I'm just not sure

Pink (salmon) (7) goes to the Black/Yellow (8) - this is your kill circuit (key, neutral safety etc)

Brown (7) goes to Grey (8) - this is the feed for the tach "signal in"

Black (7) goes to Black (8) - this is the common ground for the whole system

Purple on the 8 pin is the power feed to the warning horn as fed by temp or oil sensors etc. Your old 150 will have nothing to feed this.

Thanks for your help..... After search online deeper I found diagrams and all the info to do the swap....Again thanks for your input..... I'm sure I'm gunna have more questions about this motor, I ordered a new internal harness for it today also. If you touch the insulation it crumbles, can't believe it runs like this...

Put your purple to cream(wht) as it wont start with out it as it turn switch box on/off, The blk/yell and salmon are not used as the dead head in harness. Your kill teter on control box will not work unless youn modify wiring on it.
