My Merc 150 EFI needs a new Harness-Fuse as the battery only charging at 10 Amps. Part # 878231A03. I have the part being shipped but I have no idea where to find it on the engine. It only has two wires and one on the other end under a rubber boot. Unable to locate anything on the web. May someone help me out? Thanks in advance. Once I locate it, it should be an easy install.

You tested the stator, right?

It has a blown fuse. The battery cables got incorrectly hooked up. **** happens.
A properly sized wire and fuse won't be damaged badly enough to warrant replacement because they're adequate for the load. When battery cables are reversed, there's usually some other protection for the electronics, especially when some kind of controller/switch box/ECM is involved and often, a diode is placed before anything that can be damaged, specifically so it can take out the fuse instead of everything else. Car audio head units, power amps, etc have this, too- I did car audio for more than 20 years and often saw equipment with blown fuses work after correcting the wiring and replacing the fuse(s).

Did you see melted insulation on the harness? If not, it's probably OK, just needs the new fuse. What year is the Merc and what serial number- it may need more than the fuse, but it would be good to see the schematics and service information.

Have you contacted Merc or a Merc dealer, to get their ideas on this?

Yeah, it happens.

This has happened before. This was the part that needed replacement so the engine can charge at 14 amps. It was repaired at a merc specialist shop. I am just seeking installation of this part. Thanks for trying to help.
