03 BF225 knocking at idle in forward only- thoughts?

Hi All,
This forum has been incredibly helpful over the past year or so. Found the answers to many questions in the archives.

My 03 Honda BF225 has 350 hours on it. Recently, I noticed what I would describe as a knocking sound at idle and only in forward. It appears to go away a higher speeds or is perhaps masked. It does not occur in neutral or reverse. The engine is otherwise running smoothly.

You can just hear the noise I am describing in the background of the linked vid.

Have considered teeth on fwd gear or mid bearing... any thoughts appreciated. Thank you.

It's hard to discern the knock, but I think I heard it. I would pull the boat and first check the prop for looseness or wobble, then remove it and inspect it closely. Leave it off. Run the engine for a short time on muffs and in forward gear (it will likely over heat in about 10 to 15 minutes.) While running, take a stethoscope and try to determine where the knock is coming from. Start at the bottom of the lower unit at the gear case and work your way up. Pay special attention to the area where the mid-shaft bearing is located - about 8 inches above the top of the water pump.

Thank you both. Will explore all suggestions. Had not considered the shifter cable. Not sure how to adjust it but I'm sure there's a video somewhere.

I would consider midshaft bushing inspection unless you just very recently replaced it.
