Honda 200 HP shuts down after 10 minutes of slow trolling

Honda 200 HP shuts down after 10 minutes of slow trolling. Will not start back up till after 15 minutes. Does same thing when trolling again.Gas tank vent is clear.
 
No buzzer? No warning lamp? Have you noticed if the green oil lamp is always on, as it should be, when the engine is running?

It sounds a bit like it's going into "guardian mode" to protect the engine but it should also have a warning buzzer and lamp prompt and should restart after the igniton is cycled off and back on to allow for "limp home".

I would be concerned that it might be overheating or oil pressure is getting too low.

Is the fuel fresh and water free?

If you have a portable tank to test with you might try using that with fresh gas in it to see what happens

The no restart untill cooling down some is worrisome.

These engines have issues with the exhaust manifold hoses getting debris trapped in them causing overheat. See items 7 and 8 in the link below;

The gas seem to be fine but I’m going to hook up an auxiliary tank anyway to see what happens. I removed the temperature sensors and heated them with a heat gun and didn’t get an alarm. I have thought about putting a plug in where the temperature sensors go in and run the engine in my drum just to see if it still shuts down. If it doesn’t then I would think the buzzer or lamp is not working. What’s your thoughts on me doing that? I appreciate all of the questions and hope I can get this thing figured out. I kinda feel like its shutting down to protect the engine from overheating. The sensors seem to be pretty dirty or a little build up on them. There is another sensor that looks like a temperature sensor and is bigger than the other two. Not sure what that one is for. I’ll pull it out today and see what it looks like. It kinda looks similar to a cataletic converter sensor. Thanks for your response.
 
I removed both temperature sensors and plugged the sensor holes. I ran the engine for 20 minutes at 1800 rpms and the engine didn't shut down. I'm going to order 2 new temperature sensors and try to figure out why I'm not getting a temperature alarm..Hopefully the new sensors will solve the problem. I am going to try one more thing while the sensors are out.I'm going to run the engine and put my heat gun on the sensors one at a time and see if the motor shuts down..I'm not really sure what the temperature shut down degrees is.I'll check the sensor with my temperature gun while its running and see what kind of reading I get..
 
You need to be careful! If she is getting hot, running it can cause plenty of damage.

I'm not the 200hp tech here. Never touched one. Those sensors tell the computer to protect the engine. If you run without them, you are taking that protectiin away! So, you have to closely monitor temps and shut her off if they get too high.

That "other" sensor you found is probably the oxygen sensor. It is hella expensive. I have read about them causing problems on these outboards but I don't have the experience needed to give you good troubleshooting tips.

Finding a shop to scan with the Dr. H software might be your safest bet.

Thanks for the replies. I only removed the sensors to run a test in my tank. I don’t know wh that whe the sensors were out and I heated them up to 200 degrees the motor kept running. I think it definitely has some wiring issues. Going to hook up an auxiliary gas tank up tomorrow to take the main tank and hoses out of play. This thing has been a nightmare.
