2008 Honda bf200 replacing power head with bf225

Hi Gents,

Am I able to replace my 2006 Honda bf200 powerhead with a 2008 Honda bf225 powerhead and reuse my lower unit and mid casing? I understand the ecu is different how about the wiring harness? Thanks in Advance

I don't know. I've never worked on either of those models.

But, as usual, NSDON has a good idea. So, based on that, the most immediate question I have with doing something like this would be do the mount cases match?

And they do.

The part numbers for the 2006 200hp mount case and the 2007 and later 225hp mount cases are the same.

Of course, that's just a start at figuring this out fully but at least it looks like the 225 powerhead will swap into the space the 200hp occupied.

Good luck.

Thanks gents, I’ll let you guys know if I ever tackle it

This happens a lot, adding say 10-20% to hp using the same block. Fuel and exhaust changes can easily do that, without changing say bore or stroke. Look there for differences when you get around to it.

What do you recommend? For exhaust and fuel system? Like bigger injectors and a tune?

To clear up any questions, the only difference is the 225 has the vtec valve train, so did all the older v6 motors, it just won't be activated using the 200 ecm and harness. The harness and ecu are different, the rest including intake and throttle body are the same. This is what makes Honda parts a lot cheaper than other brands.
