    are the johnson coils grounded to the block through the mounting bolts. there are washers with some kind of coating on them between the metal tabs on coil and the block. Ihave several questions on the forum trying to get this old motor going, Thanks for all the help

    Ive looked at the prop shaft very carefully The detent definately grab the gears in gear There is nothing in the upper linkage to keep it in gear. I believe both opinions are true. Thanks to all

    I cant read the tag on motor the control box is single lever looks to be origional along with motor. I just aquired this motor on pontoon. My biggest concern is being able to see the detent ball when clutch dog slides in gear. Do the detent balls have anything to do with keeping dog in gear.It...

    gearcase is hard to shift out of gear. I tore gear case down .when I slide clutch dog into either gear I can see part of the detent ball showing on opposite side of clutch dog is this normal . I thought maybe the clutch dog jaws are worn on both sides

    Im trying to reseal a 86 28 hp johnson lower gearcase need help installation the pin ion bearing and the 2 seals above the bearing and right under water pump.My manual gives tool numbers but I cant locate them Any Ideas? Thanks
