What were the resistance values on your friends stator?

    1972 4HP stator

Yeah, they are simple engines, not much to know. In my case I will find a used coil, see if it works with my stator, then report back so others in the future can benefit from the knowledge. I've read all the threads and informatin papers on the stator, but none of them answered my question.

    1972 4HP stator

The engine was evaluated before purchase and found to be in excellent condition. Cylinder is rust free with cross hatch showing. Compression is strong. Only issue is paint on propeller blades leading edge will need to be re-painted. The fact the values are out of factory (ideal) spec does...

    1972 4HP stator

I bought the motor without a coil. Before I buy a new coil I would like to know if the stator is any good. I am aware its a Phase Maker ignition

    1972 4HP stator

1972 mercury 4hp stator. I have checked all diodes and they are all within spec. High speed coil is 718 ohms (spec is 450-550) and low speed coil is 5720 ohms (spec is 3500-5500) Will these over ohm readings cause any problems?

1971 Mercury 4 hp no spark

Is this coil color information still valid? I am workimg with a black coil with 2K ohms across the +/- and 439 ohms from primary to neg These engines require the Orange, Red or Green Ignition coils. The Black or Blue ignition coils use a common ground connection internally for the primary and...

350 omc cobra died while in motion

The banging and clunking does not sound good. Maybe check compression? I assume you have points & coil Ignition? I would look into that, check coil first, Could be fuel issue with a plugged filter or bad pump. Basic troubleshooting, as you need to eliminate possible causes one at a time...

1971 Mercury 4 hp no spark

Ontario Canada, so lots of used parts around. I need to know if this takes a special coil? I assume so, since a new one is $180. Can anyone advise me on what color(s) coil to look for? Any aftermarket options? Lasy resort would be to install a points ignition as I have a 3.9 I can use as a...

1971 Mercury 4 hp no spark

Picked up a nice 1970 or 71 4.0 with the Phase maker ignition with no spark. The young lad I bough it from said he replaced the coil. The coil has no part numbers on it, its black, and the metal tab contacting the neg terminal to the center rod on the coil is twisted. He held it down with...

Hello, can anyone tell me if the 1995+ 8hp models use the 16 cu inch block or the 12 cu inch? I know in 1995 they up the 9.9 to 16 cu inch, but cant find any info for the 6 & 8 hp blocks

1996 Mercury 9.9 compression relief ports

I know the 12 cubic inch block has compression relief ports for easy starting, but does the 16 cubic inch also have these? I have a 87 9.9 with 100 PSI compression, and a 96 9.9 with 120 PSI. Could these ports be making the difference?
