What year is my motor

Finally a site that can give me some info on my Mariner 40HP !!! Can you please tell me year and any pertinenet information on the following....she has been sitting sometime and is about to be fired up soon. This old motor maybe has 24 hrs on it, like I said put away for a rainy day and its soon to pour !! thanks in advance .....Bruce on the Chesapeake

Bruce,Your serial number 676 BL 409120 should be a 1980 engine., Model number 7040528.;):)
40 EL 676B-406821 - 676B-410850 = 1980

Thanks....one more question if you can. I am looking for the wiring diagram for the electric start cable. Missing the switch panel assembly for key ignition, choke and kill switch. So we are at a loss as to which lead is for which control. I did find the part number for the switch plate but the part is marked obsolete, so I may be making my own.

Just bought a 1972 Jon Boat with a Mariner outboard - believe it is 15 HP - trying to decipher the year of the motor.

Has a "Made In Japan" Tag, and the serial number is 684 CS 013915. Tag also says 15M - assume this has something to do with the HP.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have a merc 500 50hp and i am in australia, i have searched for ages to find out what year my motor is so i am hoping you guys can help, the serial number is 8043037, and i have fuel leaking from out of one of the carbs when the motor is running what could be causing this?

I have a Merc 40hp EL. SN 5367445 Is this a '79 or an '80 and is it a 402? I ran it hot (impeller was bad) and now after having replaced the impeller water leaks out at the spark plug. Did I burn up the cylinder block cover gasket or worse?

Your serial number (05367445) comes up as 1979 model number 1040529 MERCURY 40 EL

If I am reading correctly, my new-to-me Mariner 25M is a 1982 model manufactured by Yamaha. If so, what's the easiest way to find a new prop for this engine?

Also, anything I should be looking for as far as weak points on this engine?

can anybody confirm which year/make my outboard motor is, the S/N written on the side is Mariner W40M- 676A 319435(?) not too sure about the last digit because its partially rubbed out.
I have been told that its a 1976-77 but not too sure and I dont know if its a Yamaha or a Mercuriy built Mariner. ​By the way its a 40hp Mariner.

i just got Yamaha 8 HP outboard but I don't know the year of production neither have any manual... Since this is my first outboard motor I would be very gratefull to get any info !

Hi to all, first post for me. I have a mercury 9.9 OB253896 what year would this be and which manual number would this fall under. Does it make a difference if sold/made in Australia?

Made in Belgium.

I have recently purchased a 9.9 Force by Mercury Marine. As near as I can find out, Mercury quit making the Force motors in 2000. I have looked everywhere, but can't find out the year of my motor. Can you help me out with this? Any other info on this motor would also be appreciated. The serial # is OE105509. Thanks

I can now answer this question myself. The motor is from 1990, according to a local dealer.
