Another story of hurricane sandy , the last leg...I hope.

It has been maybe 3 years since my activities here and the storm that centered on our home and lives took a bite out of our family. My first look back here was to see If I could remember the names of the guys who are always here like lighthouse beacons in the old sailing days. I remembered...

Stopping in to say a quick hello

Logged on today to see all of the names I know from last year. Nice to see you are all still around. Hurricane Sandy did a number on us and despite the damage everywhere..the boat was not really touched despite some major issues at the marina. I plan to start working on getting the boat set...

    oil cooler lines

Not that I am surprised but MY hoses are fitted squeezed metal parts...some with a 90 degree sweep attached to the hoses. They use flare type fittings from the trans and oil cooler and some on the cooler are very odd shaped 45 degree fittings that are Crusader OEM .. I THINK. SO Now I gotta go...

    Motor Mounts 1992

I had briefly mentioned elsewhere in a comment that some PO decided to add about 100 lbs extra torque to the trunion bolts on one of my engines. It is becoming increasingly more apparant I may need to pull this one motor mount and work the bolt out of its' place. IF I can't remove it in its...

    What Spare Part to Bring

Dave you started with a great list so I hope you don't mind that I paste it here... The "what spare part to bring", is a great topic. Maybe should start a new thread for this one. But, I go off many dozens of miles into foreign lands with, admittedly, not much poundage of spares. For my...

Evolution of modern practices in todays newer boats...looking for a few answers

In the 5 years or so I have been doing everything to this boat. I have read many topics for which I wonder when these things started AND should mine be "updated" There are too many opinions and the regs read to me at times like a Latin language guide book to Key West I have re-wired some...

    Anti-Freeze and Mixing Water Quality

SO...Rather than pay $4.50 for a 1/2 gallon of water ( thanks Prestone), I bought the standard straight stuff that needs to be diluted. Do you think that the water from my de-humidifier it clean enough, mineral wise, to use as a source for water or is there a suggestion out here? I could use...

Only Half of a Crusader Question

Has anyone had any experience using the hot water taps on the engine thermostat housing to attach to the hot water heater tank for the "domestic" hot water heating? I understand It REALLY heats the hot water but I am wondering IF it is worth doing for the limited use it may get while out. We...

    E35 Sherwood Crossreference Counterpart?....and more

Seems like the "X" years cycle may be coming around again so in being proactive, I have gone thru the entire cooling system (FWC) to clean and drop temps back to normal. Port side started to reach 170 at prolonged cruise 1.) During the cleaning (poking that brass brush into all of thos heat...

    Engine Room and Venting

Being deep inside the hull, I am replacing the 3" flex hose that runs from the vent boxes on each side of the hull to various places under the deck. Being nearly 30 years old, I question whether or not they are in the right places or not. Each side has 4 hoses and 2 of each go to the lowest...

Looking for recommended lube for linkages

I was going thru the box of tattered and torn paperwork I had gotten with the boat years ago and found the Crusader Operation and Maintenance Manual. After lightly reading thru it ( about 1/2 the thickness of a typical monthly magazine ) there are some simple things in maintenance I have been...

    Walters V-Drive Dash Warning Lights

Does someone know where the two Walters Warning Lamps on my helm are connected to on the v-drive/ transmission combos. I can't seem to find any lugs or terminals unless the have rotted off YEARS ago. While I am at it...I am thinking that in order to use a neutral safety switch on my BW 71C...

New Wiring from Engine to helm

I am almost finished wiring the engine room wires and will be making the passage thru the bulkheads along the interior hull shell and up to the flybridge. Is there any benefit to using that flexible conduit covering on this bundle. It is suspended properly along the route. Just wondering IF...
