Don't believe everything your neighbor tells you.----How does this 1979 motor run for you ??----And you can remove one of the intake bypass covers to inspect and see if this piston replacement has been done.----Cost you a $4.00 gasket.

I will check for myself. After I installed a new gas filter, it had been unchanged for quite some time, it ran very good. I was impressed on how fast it was at wot and stayed smooth as I tried different speeds. Ran better at idle, in gear, then my 90’s. Only problem now Is hard starting. Will go through starter. The young guy I bought it from had cut out all the wiring and couldn’t put it back together. Why?? IDK!
I have gauges yet to do. Tach first! Thanks for your help.

Thank you. That is a confirmation, two agreed so I can check to see if there is excess carbon to deal with. Thanks!
Motor runs very good but is hard starting. Seemed to turn over good but maybe not good enough for V6. Only have v4 to compare. But same year powerhead. I had two I made into one. 79 100 hp and 83 90 hp. The 100hp was used with 83 lower unit. Runs and works great. Starts with flick of the key. Any comments on v6 hard starting?

Charge the battery.-----Load test the battery.-----Take starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.----Post actual compression values here.----Choke solenoid working and adjusted properly ?----Consider installing the wonderful electric primer valve as used on newer models ?

Yes to all

With plugs in do you have spark that jumps a gap of at least 3/8" on a test device ?----Good compression would be 120 PSI on that motor.----When you operate the fast idle lever does timer base rotate a wee bit and open throttle slightly , yes or no?

To your last question yes. But I am waiting, for our new found winter is stopping me. The boat is under cover. We got over a foot of heavy wet snow. Minnesota ya know. I am grateful for your help. Will be back soon. But there is always a chance for another snow event. I hope not
