just wondering.. I have seen several owners having trouble already getting parts for engines made in the 90's into the 2000's.. stuff like certain sensors, switches, electrical, ignition and gearbox components etc.. Guy were already hearing the word "obsolete" even when Evinrude was still with us.. just wondering about the legions of guys with OMC engines from the last 50 or 60 years that have a dependable OMC 2 stroke they really like and don't particularly want to "upgrade" to a computer controlled 4 stroke...Is it time to just start buying a bunch of junk engines to cannibalize for their parts, or is there enough aftermarket stuff made to keep these very good engines going??.. based on what I have seen myself and on other forums, I have some grave concerns... I can't get anything anywhere else than the internet these days.. Dealers that were OMC for generations, want NOTHING to do with customers they serviced for decades if they are still looking for OMC parts.. Of course, they be happy to sell you a new Zuke, or Merc of course, but your good old 96 Johnny?... Nope... bob

Time to look for used parts as those are plentiful in some areas.----Put the part # into google search and find the part on E-bay.-----Try places such as-----evinrudeparts.ca----As they are very helpful.-----Your location ?

what parts can't you find? CDI makes all ignition for 1970's on up (accept some limited run stuff and only older). WSM, ProMarine, Vertex, Wiseco, and evirude website as well as about 4 big parts houses. there is also Stone & Sons in Texas they have a massive warehouse of mostly NOS stuff

Nothing in particular yet, just wondering is all.. I have had problems getting anyone to even talk to me about OMC outboards these days however.. I have been able to get parts past few years, but had to do my share of scrounging.. Water pumps, fuel primer solenoid, common stuff, no problem yet, , but things like a flywheel, maybe a cast aluminum engine part, not so sure.....bob

you are correct about hard parts mostly yes. Mounts upper and lower are NLA, and any old stock on ebay is usually pricey. good thing you can pin them. flywheels are extremely rare to need replacing, especially the ones with cast-in magnets. cranks and rods are everywhere used, and really most are in good shape that are for sale.
