To add an electric starter to 5.5 or 6 Hp evinrude or johnson

I know I'm gonna catch a lot of flack over this post. :p I'm old. I like to row. But I have these two motors, and maybe I'm gonna put one on my 14' Jon boat.:D I doubt there was ever a Factory starter. I'd sure be grateful for any info I can use. I may use a Starter from a B&S lawn mower...

Searching for Rare or Old stuff. How many search engines do we have?

I know of Ebay, Craigs list. Then there are Claz.org and SearchTempest, two that are supposed to search Craigs list. There must be other search engines. How do we post something that will go to ALL the search engines? ;)

    Evinrude 5.5 Fuel/timing Question

I have this little guy. It pulls through with good compression. The plugs are never Wet! There is fire to the plugs. The fuel line pump from the tank will drive the fuel all the way to the Carb. When we pull it through, the plugs don't get wet. It does not fire when I spray Carb Cleaner in to...

    My little 5.5 Evinrude

#5402B-E08844 This came to me in a trade. With all the usual Salve remarks about it used to run good etc. Nobody in the Business of fixing outboards would have taken this motor. I get so emotionally run down from starting all over again and again. This one needs a Shift lever. They have a long...

    Evinrude 5.5 Question

New to me: 5.5 Evinrude, #54028 (or B) E08844 Is the Evinrude and Johnson 5.5's the Same? I haven't tried to start it yet. Just pulled it through a few times. It seems to be OK so far. It's sitting in my Tank ready to go. Someone tell me all you know about this engine. Uh....don''t want to...

76-79 Ranger. Floor boards rotted. Big question here.

I'd like to keep this old guy. It needs Floor boards and probably stringers and a new Transom. Do any of you know how I can remove the Cap? Instructions? Memory? Photos? Is there a better way possibly?:)

    78 Johnson Starter died.

Used starter, growled, turned slow. I took it apart and cleaned everything up. Then, back together, when I put the +12 to it, for a test, the sparks flew and smoke started out.:D Took it apart again, didn't SEE any Self inflicted wounds. Anybody have some Test process' to look for shorts, or...

76-73 Johnson 85 Hp Steering cable siezed in out board bracket.

Boats been sitting for years. Shame on me!:( Now the shaft is stuck inside the Outboard bracket. I wonder if there's a way to take it all that stuff apart back there? I cannot pull the end of the Cable out of the Outboard bracket. It's OK up at the helm. I think the Cable is probably OK inside...

There's quite a story with this motor. We bought it when we were young. Some how it got hard to pull as the years went by.

Question on Home-made Hyd Steering, or even shift and throttle control.

This is for small boats. But the theory might work on anything. I read some posts on Stick Steering and coming up with the right cables. I thought this might work. Do you guys see anything wrong with my idea? Tell me, and I'll fix it if I'm able.:o

    Question on SPitting & missing.

On the older 2 Hose engines mostly. They suddenly start spitting, missing etc at an idle. I always thought the Spitting was beacuse one Cylinder did not fire, leaving the next cylinder to fire, and the wet gas ignited and caused a Spitting noise. That would be a Wet condition. Too much fuel. A...
