"With the advent of IPS type drive systems, does anyone know of plans to mate these to Crusader gasoline engines. Will it be possible to retrofit to an older boat?"

"It has been brought up but it

"It has been brought up but it is partially depending on weather the boat manufacturers are willing to retool their hulls to accept this unit. When it's all said and done you might as well have an outdrive. At least with the outdrive you can adjust the trim angle and trim up out of the water, for a lot less money."

And not have to hire a diver to locate the dumb things when a floating log knocks them off!

AM I the only one who thinks those IPS drives are a really dumb idea?

Donno,.... I gotta see 1 before I can pass judgement......"

"Get used to them, they're

"Get used to them, they're here to stay. Why do you think they are trying to copy it?

Unfortunately, they will be real hard to copy. Volvo has 40+ patents on the technology required to make these things work right and has been working on them for over 10 years. Silverton just introduced the new 52 Ovation at the fall show in Lauderdale, which uses three 600 hp IPS drives. Their '08 production is already sold out. Currently every new diesel model they introduce will be available in the IPS option and of those with this option available, most are sold with it. Egg Harbor is seatrialing their first one on Thursday. I was a skeptic at first, but once you run one, you're sold."

"Mercruiser's setup looks

"Mercruiser's setup looks similar, but they put the props in back. That makes a lot more sense to me. Volvo's setup is like leading with your chin in a fist fight!
