" I have a 50 hp Evinrude i need to know the year. The model # is E50BELCIC and the serial number is #J0002027 This motor also has a running problem its hard to start once its started it runs good when you idle it up hi when coming back dont it starts running rough and backfires and when you go to put it into foward or revesre it dies. Could someone please help me?

Firstly you have a 1981

Firstly you have a 1981 model. Next step is to check the compression. It should be at least 100psi and even between the two cylinders. Next check the spark. It should jump a 7/16" gap. If that shows ok check the linkage and syncronisation adjustments. You may need a manual if you are not familiar with this procedure. Or alternately request the info on this post. If this doesn t correct your problem your carbs may be fouled or dirty which will require rebuilding.

There you have it. If you do decide to rebuild it it is advisable to find out what caused the problem to start with rather than just replace the damaged parts cause it might happen again. If you are not showing any compression in that cylinder this indicates a problem such as badly scored bore or hole in the piston. It may also pay to remove the cylinder head first to inspect inside you may be lucky and just have a blown head gasket.

we have a 1981 chyrsler 85hp with no spark
could anybody help us on how to test the system so we could order the correct part from the states
as no spares or information is available in south africa.
