"Sure do [img][/img] It's

"Sure do
It's a 1966 model.

Your second question depends - good for what?

Good for a boat, sure, OMC has always made a decent/reliable product.

The motor is however, over 40 years old. It has old style ignition with points/condenser which requires "slightly" more maintenance (and is more prone to failure) than the more modern (electronic) ignitions.

Parts are obviously going to be more difficult to find than say for a motor produced in the last 10-15 years. So that may present a challenge.

Additionally, unless you intend to do required work yourself, you "may" have difficulty trying to find a place to work on it (outside of a standard tune-up). Not everywhere is even interested in working on an older motor. In some cases the "marine tech's" will not have even been born when that motor came off the assembly line.

Having said all that, there are still 1000's of 1960-something OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) and Merc's out there on lakes everyday. Take care of it and it may well last another 40 years...."

"Thanks G L the year is a grea

"Thanks G L the year is a great help in order to purchase manual. What I ment the second question was I ok at working on things my self, but I've never worked on an outboard before. After working on it a few nights got it running, but needs some rewiring in the box that the silinoid is in. Do you know what this box is called and how the wires are suposed to look."

"All in all, outboards are not

"All in all, outboards are not overly complicated to work on - especially the smaller ones.. Yours kinda falls into the "the smallest of the mid-size" class.

I work on "small" (mostly 25 and under), just because I don't like to work on anything that I can't lift by myself without hoists, cranes etc...

I have no experience with your earlier Johnson - I'm primarily a Merc guy, but started working on the small mid-80's onward OMC's as they got more popular around my cottage/boating area's.

If you get ahold of a manual it should be able to answer all your questions. Or you can find Joe Reeves on here - he has vast experience with OMC stretching back a long time..."
