I've got a Mariner 40E 2 cycle outboard and need to repair the carbs but can't seem to find a distributor with the correct parts. Can anyone send me a link or phone number for someone who might have the parts? The motor was built in Japan around 1984 (S/N 40E9L413067). the only numbers on the carbs is 6E900WC30. any ideas on who built them or if Mercury parts will work?

Built by Yamaha for Merc - sold as the "C" model Mariner.

Merc still carries the parts (very limited aftermarket parts for this model and no carb kits).

Rebuild kit that does both carbs is Merc part 97667T - lists at almost 200 bucks but available most places for about $170.

You could try a Yami dealer. The motor was mechanically identical to a 1981 model 40FEML - I don't have access to parts lists that far back for Yami so can't give you any numbers. If they can help you, you may save a few bucks (but not many)...

Mariner carb repair

Galamb, thanks for the response. I ran some bad fuel last weekend at the lake and have had problems keeping the motor running. I drained the gas, cleaned the tank, pumped out the fuel line, fuel pump and added new gas and oil and tried to keep it running. Had trouble starting it but injected gas into the throttle body and kept it running until the bad stuff was out of the carbs. If I'm careful enough can I disassemble the carb and clean out the ports and adjust the float without tearing the gaskets, I'm trying to keep from spending $200 on a rebuild kit.
