hi , i live in Australia and our year letters and model numbers are different to you guys in USA ? I was just wondering what was the best way to match the model numbers to yours , so we can buy the parts from USA FOR CHEAPER !!!!!!

My Yamaha outboard is a 1996 (x ) v4 ceto 115hp
thanks guys

What is the complete engine ID? It will begin with the number 6.

More than likely 6E5. There will then be a letter. L or X probably. Then there will be six or seven digits. The complete ID should be on a data plate affixed to the left hand clamp bracket.

Once the complete ID is known I can tell you if there is a USA equivalent model. Which there probably will be.

Looks to be a 1993 model year 115CETO. Equivalent of a USA model 115TLRR. Particularly if it has an oil injection system installed. As opposed to using premix gasoline.

Hi Boscoe, sorry to hijack this old post but I have a similar question
I also live in Australia and have a 1980's model Yamaha 115hp engine number 6E5L350385. Currently having problems with tilt/Trim, rams will not retract when engine is lowered, they retract immediately the bypass screw is opened. No problem raising the engine to full height.
Thanks Dennis

Boscoe, my engine is labeled Yamaha 115AETO (pic attached) thanks.

Looks to be a 1984 model year motor.

Single ram or multiple rams?

Have you confirmed that the trim and tilt reservoir is full of fluid?

Boscoe, thank you for your response.
It is multiple ram (pic attached).
There is no separate reservoir.
I have tried bleeding the system by raising the motor, removing 18mm bolt from right side ram, topping up fluid until overflow, replace bolt and lower motor, all using remote control button. Repeated this a few times with no sign of air coming out of the system.
When bleeding, the Engine only comes down until it touches the two short (trim) rams as they will not retract.
If I try bleeding again will the travel between the rams and fully up position be sufficient to bleed air from the system?
Small rams are not seized as they retract immediately when the by-pass screw is opened.
The Tilt/Trim motor sounds like it is still working when the motor reaches the rams. I was thinking about looking at new brushes for the trim motor but need to open it to check first.
There are no visible oil leaks externally on the rams.

That's OK. If it has three I know which configuration it is.

By reservoir I meant the one that is part of the assembly.

Boscoe, I have been trying to find a seal service kit for my motor just in case I need to change internal seals but have had no luck. Plenty of kits for later models 1997 and newer (for Showa motors?).
Any idea where I might be able to source a kit and a suitable pin wrench for my 1984 model. Thanks
