Yamaha Malta 3.5hp 2 stroke overheating

My Malta starts easily and has a good strong telltale at idle, but as I increase revs the telltale splutters and either steam or exhaust gas comes out replacing most of the water, then when I reduce revs the telltale returns and the water is not over hot.

I have checked all passage ways are clear and after rebuilding have taken the outer thermostat cover off and put a hose to all three holes and water comes out of the other two and out of the leg at the bottom, suggesting good circulation.

I have checked the impeller, which is new, and it’s housing, and under the bottom plate, and all passages are clear. I have run the water pump using an electric drill and water comes out with enough pressure to squirt over my shoulder if I partially close off the rubber outlet hose with my finger.

The pump outlet and the metal delivery pipe mate well when put back together.

I took a video of it running, but haven’t figured out how to post it yet.

Any thoughts on what is happening would be much appreciated
