Hello, New to a 2005 yamaha F150 outboard.
I just purchased the yamaha diagnostics system software and cables,
i installed the software on two laptops and have the same no communication error results on both computers.
one has windows 10 and the other windows VISTA. I have the key turned to on, and the adapter cable has a led on
showing it is connected to the motor. but its like the laptop is not seeing the usb cable. because the error is the same
if no cable is hooked up to the laptop. I installed the driver and any adapter but no luck.
any ideas ? thanks

I know it's an old thread, but for anyone having this issue (like I did when I first got YDS), this might be useful.

You have to configure one of your laptop's USB ports for communication. It's hard to tell from the list in the Device Manager, but just plug in the cable to one of the ports, turn the key to the ON position, then go to Start Menu > (search) Device Manager. In the Device Manager, go to 'View > Show Hidden Devices'. Then under 'Ports (COM & LPT)' in the Device Manager list, you should see "USB Serial Port". Right click on that, and select 'Properties > Port Settings > Advanced', and find the 'COM Port Number'. It's probably set to COM1. Try changing it to COM2, COM3, and so on (i.e. however many USB ports your laptop has), then click Ok. Each time you change it, re-launch the YDIS application and unplug/reconnect the cable from the laptop. That works for me on both Windows 7 and 10. I would expect Vista to also work.

Tried this software and I am having some problems. For some reason, my PC did not see the installed program and did not start from the taskbar at all. I don’t know what it’s connected with, maybe because I have a very old notebook. Now I have saved up enough money to buy a new notebook. I don't know which one to choose, since the choice is very large. A friend of mine recommended me a service on the Internet that created a rating of laptops in various price categories. The best notebooks in the price-quality ratio are collected here. If you are wondering which notebook I chose for myself, check out this article on gadgetguide .
