Yamaha control box 703 vs 704

Hello everybody;

I have a question about Yamaha control boxes. Earlier I had a Yamaha 70hp autolube 2-stroke from 1991 with a 703 control box with one digital multiinstrument.
Now I bought a V4 100 AETO autolube from 1999 with controlbox 704 which has 2 digital innstrument. Unfortunately I can’t unse the 704 box in my boat. Is it possible to rebuild the 703 box to fit this engine with to digital instrument? Both of them had a 10-pin connector but 704 has a separate ignition key.
Hope you understand my bad English.. :)

You can absolutely positively use a 703 control box instead of a 704 control box. You do not have to do anything to the 703 control box.

Your English is just fine. Perfectly understandable.

Thank you boscoe for your answer, still confused since there is much more cables from 704 vs 703? See my bad pictures.. 20210506_200215.jpg20210506_200235.jpg20210506_200246.jpg20210506_200246.jpg20210506_200259.jpg20210506_200329.jpg20210506_200354.jpg

Just a different ten pin harness is all.

704 uses one with two connectors at one end. Plus a key switch panel.

703 uses one with a connector at one end and bullet connectors at the other. The bullet connectors should be within the control box.

All else is the same.

Hi can use a 703 on a Yamaha 4 Stroke?

Absolutely positively.

As long as it is a mechanically controlled four stroke.

Digitally controlled Yamaha four strokes are different animals altogether. No control cables are involved.

The old 70 2stroke opens throttle differently than a new 70 4stroke. One was push to open for the cable, one was pull to open. Yamaha does sell the linkage to convert the internals to change if necessary

From my recollection all 703 control boxes used with larger HP models were of a push to open pull to close type of configuration.

When I repowered my 15' Whaler from a 1993 70 to a 2023 70 I know I bought a new remote locally because I did not want to wait for the conversion kit (plus it's was showing it age)
