Yamaha Click

Hi, I have a 1997 Yamaha VMAX 150 - It worked fine last weekend and when I went to start it today it made a click then a Clunk, and that's it. It didn't turn over at all. The battery is working perfectly. I am not sure if it is the relay, starter, or anything else - All help is appreciated!

Check the voltage from the battery first. If the problem persists, remove the starter and supply power to it to see if it engages and spins. While it's off, see if the flywheel spins or is locked up. for testing a relay, connect 12v supply to 85 & 86 terminals; should hear it click. using a voltmeter with an audible alarm for continuity; with no power supplied to 86 & 85 terminals, you should have constant continuity between 30 & 78 with nothing on 78a. reconnecting the 12v supply to 85 & 86, you should now have continuity between 30 & 78a with nothing on 78. anything else would suggest a faulty relay.

Are you familiar with Yamaha outboard motors?

At any rate, you should still have continuity between the two posts with the nuts when power is supplied to the two wires. assuming black is ground, the brown would be power. It still functions the same.
