Yamaha 9.9 Remote control

I just purchased a 2017 Yamaha 9.9 four-stroke and would like to add remote throttle and shifter controls to my 22-foot Rhodes sailboat. I have seen lots of control boxes online but many of them have a multi-pin connector that does not appear to connect to anything on my motor (9.9 LMHB) I have also seen trolling motor control boxes like the iTroll which are basically mechanical systems with an electronic interface to set speed. There are good YouTube videos on how to set these up on my motor. My dilemma is connecting a standard Yamaha control box with shifter and speed controls to my motor. I can find no information or instructions for how to do this. Any help from the forum members would be most appreciated.

Was your question not answered on another forum?
Yes but it didn’t really give me the information I need. That is, how to wire a Yamaha remote control (or a 3rd party remote) to a 9.9 motor. I want to hand this information before I make a purchase so that I know what I am doing.

Well, there is only a bus with a dozen or so connections. It does have electric start with wiring for that. My confusion is that most of the images of remote controllers show an 8-11 pin connector coming grom the remote. There is nothing on my motor that would enable those to plug in.

Correct. Which is why the 701 control box without a wiring harness attached was suggested.

Your motor did not come from Yamaha with a starter motor. Are you saying that one is now installed?

Need to figure out the wiring.---Cut the big plug off the cable.----Mount a terminal strip on the motor and connect wires for---- ignition on / off, choke , oil pressure , cranking and overheat warning if equipped with that.

So I still have the same question - how do you wire up the 701 control box? Are there instructions somewhere that I can see before buying the 701?

There are no Yamaha instructions that I know of.

If you have a starter motor installed then you will want to buy the 703 remote control box. Some modifications will be needed to make the connections at the motor end.

Thanks for the help you have given. Without some sort of guidance or instructions, it doesn't appear that it is something I want to tackle. Perhaps this is Yamaha's way of discouraging do-it-yourselfers from messing with their motors. On the other hand, companies all over the world offer guidance for their customers to enhance their products. It's baffling to me that Yamaha or the manufacturer of these remote controllers don't offer this.
