Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke pls help

please anyone what is this ?? Puff smoke under cowling ..puff fuel top carb inlet hose every squeal
.don't think mixture / cough as have altered all screws.
New coils, plugs, pump, pipes, tank, bulb, oil - not sure what the hell it is?? Greased drive shaft spline...had someone look at it and just lost....could it be air somewhere ?

Looks like a bad gasket seal where the powerhead meets the center section above the lower unit? I have a similar engine and could see how that could puff out like that. Just my 2 cents.
