Yamaha 4 stroke 150 hp vs 200 hp

"Pat, 1 or 2 year old models have not been around long enough to really see if they have "chronic" problems. Certainly nothing has popped up right from the factory floor.

From personal perspective I can tell you that if you don't go with the 200 horse you will be back at this board before very long asking how you can get more performance out a 150.

If you want 200 horses and the boat can handle it, then buy that now - or regret it forever.

Again, personally, given the choice between a 4 stroke and an HPDI, the HPDI would win hands down.

Not because of performance, price etc etc, but because over the life of the motor the maintenance costs will be significantly less than half what the 4 stroke would cost you.

An HPDI has a 1 piece upper block, there are close to 100 moving parts in the upper block of a 4 stroke. Do you really trust that every one of those 100 or so pieces is free of some "factory defect" that will prevent it from failing over the long term?

And the direct injected models are just as quiet and just as efficient as the 4 strokes.

My one concern with the HPDI Yami's is the pressure they use for the direct injectors. Like the Etec's they use upwards of 1000 psi. I much prefer Merc's low pressure (40 psi) injectors. While I have not seen proof, I suspect that over the longer term all that pressure is going to cause something to let go...."
