Yamaha 30 hp starts missing at half throttle

"bought this boat used . on first outing ran about 2 gal. fuel and it ran great. on the second day ran good about a hour then starting skiping at about half throttle and above. starts and idels good. its not backfiring, just missing. runs pretty good below half throttle ???"

"Allen, if you can get ahold of a timing light (and a buddy) take the boat out and see if you are losing spark when it's "missing".

Did you test compression and spark when you bought it? How old are the sparkplugs? Impeller? Lower unit oil?

Although the first thoughts with a new rig are "get out on the water"
, pause for a minute (or 10) and give the motor a good look over, do the annual maintenance (unless I see "some guy" do the maint myself, I always assume it wasn't done).

All these used boats and motors on the market that are "rarely used" or "run perfectly" or have "been no trouble" lead me to question why they are being sold - assume the worst - treat the motor as if it has been neglected...."
