"I have a 1987 outboard Yamaha 30 HP Model 30SH completely manual, i.e. manual start, tiller handle. Is it possible to install wiring and a rectifier inside this engine to be able to charge an external battery?"

Just don't be surprised if your wallet will find itself 100 bucks lighter for the parts. Double that if you want OEM wiring.
