Pulled the powerhead and shift
Pulled the powerhead and shift linkage must have raised up a bit from lower cowing position as the lower unit will not shift into neutral and remains in forward only as determined by turning prop.. Found condition before we reinstalled powerhead - ran shifter assembly thru fnr positions but remains in forward. Not a tiller outboard.
Can I drop the foot and reindex the splined shift shaft? Do I need to shift into gear before reinstalling lower unit.
Outboard also makes a rubbing sound/resonance in mid section when in gear. Thought it might be an engine bearing until we removed powerhead; we turned propeller and found sound to be coming from midsection - Any ideas on the resonance and especially the stuck in gear issue. Thanks for all comments.
