"I'm not familiar with that motor, but are you sure you got ALL the bolts? On several occasions I have been frustrated and found later that there was another bolt or two that I had not seen."

THAT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM

THAT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2.6L YAMAHAS. AND I WISH I COULD TELL U EXACTLY HOW TO FIX IT. THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS ALOT OF HEAT AND PRESSURE.

"If the bolts broke near the head then you will need to drill through the side of the exhaust adapter to sever the bolts within about 1" of the powerhead. Here is a picture of the two starboard rear bolts on a 225HP after such a proceedure:

Since I was replacing this adapter anyway I used a long shank carbide burr in a die grinder because it give easier access and makes quick work of it. If you use a drill and are careful you can aviod any water and exhaust passages and reuse the adapter.

The block will still be difficult to break free so here is a trick to "jack" the block off the midsection. There are two short bolts in the very rear of the powerhead. Loosen but leave these in place. Find a spacer that just fits betweeen the bolt and the midsection. In this case a 1/4" drive extension is shown:

Now, by backing out the bolt you will be able to generate considerable force to break the block free. Here is a photo of the block just beginning to seperate:

It is doable but when all is said and done that piston will seem like the least of your worries.

Good luck and let me know if you need any other help.
