Yamah 50 tilt trim issue

Outboard Engine will lower but will not raise. When I push the switch to lower I can hear the unit. When I push the switch to raise the engine all hear is a clicking sound at the relay or solenoid or what ever you call it.

Anyone out there that can help? Thanks, Richard

Bad relay, you can swap the green and blue wires around from motor and see if it will raise

Green is down and blue is up

the tilt trim motor maybe. may have water in it or is just on way out. I had same issue. Yamaha service centre said relay and to clean the relay as parts description said it could be pulled apart but you can not as 2 wires are soldered through cap on relay. I tried a caltric tilt trim motor and it worked but then it would cut out and I found that a valve in the pump was the issue. wasn't much more to get new entire unit than to have pump repaired.

I had the same problem. It would go down but not up. The weight brings it down thinking it was working down but it wasn't. Up the same with the relay clicking. It was a bad Motor. You could disconnect the motor wiring and put 12 v on it and listen to see if it works. No noise bad motor.
