"OK.. My motor starts and runs

"OK.. My motor starts and runs fine at WOT for about 20min and then briefly cuts out. Then at idle it surges/hunts and dies. I have cleaned the carbs, replaced inlet gasket, new fuel pump, thermostat, fitted water seperator, new fuel line/primer bulb. I have spoken to 3 mechanics and cannot get a solid direction to go in. Could it be the charge coil? Any help would be much appreciated!"

Thanks.. yea I have bought a manual and a multimeter. Not sure what a DVA is? Hopefully I can get my head around how it all works. First thing I will do is check and clean all my earths and then move on to the coils if that gives me no joy.

Thanks.. I really appreciate your advice. So you thing a live wire is playing up rather than an earth? my multimeter is a cheapy but it does read voltage

Awsome thanks for that. Once again much appreciated. I will be up the lake for the next 10 days or so and will let you know how I get on when I get back. Cheers

Checked ohm readings for the t

Checked ohm readings for the trigger and charge coils when cold and all within specs. I dont have specs for what the ohms should be when warm so didnt go any further down that track.
I did however check for any shorts on a pitch black night and noticed the plugs were shorting. I checked the resistance on all the ignition coils and found 1 was within specs but could not get a reading on the other 2. I have since had a mechanic check them with his very expensive meter and he found the same thing. I have now purchased 2 2nd hand coils and some quality silicon plug caps. Im heading back to the lake in a day or 2 so will try these out. Hopefully I am on the right track.. any thoughts Justin time?

Oh yea.. I also checked the voltage for the charge coil when running at idle. It was very hard to read as the voltage was all over the place but it seemed to be fluctuating between 130 and 190 volts. My mechanic said it should be at least 180 but I dont put much faith in my multimeter.

"Oh so thats what I need a dva for.. You have only told me 3 times allready! Are you getting sick of repeating yourself? Ok will chuck the coils in and see how it goes and if no good I will beg, steel or borrow a dva. The boat will be coming home in 3 weeks so it will be easier to work on it then. Cheers Justin"
