I was wondering if anyone has

I was wondering if anyone has a Y Pipe for a 5.7 GSI Volvo penta. If anyone can instruct me on how to install because my machanic is telling me that the motor has to come out and will cost someware around $3000.00.

"Yes, the engine must come out but that sounds like WAY to much for that job. I don't work on the newer V/P but on the AQ series that's about a 6 to 10 hour job barring any trouble with salt plus the part/parts. What do you think El?"

"This spring I changed out the Y on an AQ260. The cost of the Y was under $1000Cdn plus the hoses. I did the actual installation myself (with the boat out of the water of course). Also, I was able to change it without taking out the engine. I loosened the retaining bolts on the "shield" and slid the engine forward then removed the Y by turning it in various directions. The ease with which the Y comes out depends on the clearances you have in your particular boat. Installation is the reverse. When the Y was installed I tightened the transom bolts which brought the engine back to its initial position. When I put the boat into the water I had no leaks. In order to slide the engine you simply remove the forward engine mounts then lift the engine. For this I used a beam spread across the open engine hatch and a cable "comealong" attached to a steel cable that was placed around some lifting points on the engine. As a non professional serviceperson I probably spent about 15 hours on the project."
