Can anyone tell me the differe

Can anyone tell me the difference between the XR2 AND XR4 Mercury Black Max outboards? Which one is better and so on? Thanks. Lou

"I have never worked on either but from other discussions have heard alot of complaints about the gearcases on the XR4's - they did change them somewhere along the line and make them stronger, but intially the were apparently very weak. On the other hand, the XR2's were supposedly very hard on parts. That's kind of the gist I've got from guys who either owned them or worked on them. I'm sure someone else will be able to jump in with some comments here..."
