I have a sears tecumseh engine model #217-585280 3.5 HP. I have cleaned the fuel path from the tank, thru the shut off to the carb inlet. I have blown canned air thru every nook and cranny of the carb.
I cleaned out the carb, replaced the float valve and seat {float is not leaking} It will start after a few pulls and run for about 30 seconds then die out. Afterward it will not start for 10 minutes. I have r&r the carb after each attempt
Any ideas? I purchased a new fuel pump {the little red rubber thing} and ordered the new parts which go under the input plate of the carb.

Question #1 Does it matter how the position of the slot in the fuel pump when it is placed into the carb?

Question #2 How do I find out what the correct spark plug and gap is for this motor?"

"Ray, best bet is to find a Tecumseh dealer/repair shop and ask them. This is simply a Tecumseh engine as far as they are concerned - I can't remember the gap for the plugs (which come pre-gapped) and I have lent out my small engine book
