Wrong carb

i have what i thought was a 90

i have what i thought was a 90 hp i ws told i have either a 110 or 115 motor ran fine before put up i went to have the carbs cleaned and put it back in use and the shop told me that 2 pistons are scored and the motor is no good if you put 90hp carbs on a 110 or 115 could it cause this

what should the compression be and could a carb that is to small cause this
