Worn out key/switch???

I'm new to the boating world and am in the process of restoring a 2000 Sweetwater Pontoon that's been abandoned. The key currently works but it seems to be worn out, hard to push-to-prime, the safety chord will not stay on unless I hold it on, and the key feels flimsy.....so I would like to replace it. Should I do an all in one or should i separate the kill switch from the ignition. Does anyone have any suggestions or could recommend a type or brand? The motor is a 1999 Johnson 50hp Outboard.

Thanks.

It would probably be easier to just get a direct replacement switch, then you don't have to seperate the wiring for an extra switch. Have you thought about how you are going to get a title for that boat since it was abandon?

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know how to go about getting a direct replacement? How do I identify what I have because I don't recall seeing a manufacturer name on the console where the key is.

As far as the title is concerned, I know the guy that abandoned the boat and he has a title, thankfully, because i'm sure getting it titled wouldn't be easy.

GEt the model and serial off the outboard motor because most of them of a certain model and make would use a common controller for outboard applications. Then call a parts dealer and they can help you! The boat itself does not determine the control unit, only the motor brand and model!
