Have a 3.3 outboard which normally runs perfectly. The other day on an island went to start and couldn't get into neutral. Able to start and motor home though. Tore the lower end off, and checked everything, reset the gears, new oil, shift rods are moving properly and not binding, etc. The shift handle feels like it isn't moving all the way and the lower rod used to make like a click when moved properly. Is the lower end of the rod supposed to have notched side facing gear (assume yes) ? The little pin rod is in and the spring seems fine.
