Greetings, I recently purchased a used boat with Volvo Penta I/O 3.0 GS. The
boat was sitting for eight months before I bought it. One our first trip out
it idled fine but wouldnt run WOT for more than 1 minute. I gave it a tune up
and cleaned the fuel filter, there is some water and sediment in the fuel.
we took it out again and it still wont run WOT. I can cruise around @ 2000
rpm's and it runs fine but once I open it up it only runs for about 1 minute.
I thinking of siphoning the gas and buying a uses manual today.

Why are you even wanting to run at WOT for more than 1 minute?????

WOT RPM is a short test RPM to see if the engine is geared and/or propped correctly.

Ricar I would like to pull. My kids on a tube/skies. So I brought the throttle up. Even when I had the RPM'S @ 3500 the engine woukd only stay there for a minute before dying. If I brought the throttle down to clutch ahead before it died it kept running.oMarine;467020 said:

Ah!

Can you tell us what measures you've taken so far?

Test/check only one item at a time.
This is how the P of E (process of elimination) works best.

I replaced the battery as is was 5 years old.
Replaced the ALT belt as it had several dign of wear
Repkaced the spark plus and wires
Cleaned the fuel filter and fuel line from pump to engine.
the fuel filter was is good condition. There was sone water and sediment
in the fuel that cane out of the filter.
I checked all the water hose to the thermostat and they looked fine.
I didnt pull the thermostat off because I dont have a spare on hand.
